This month our unit study was Africa. We read missionary stories of Africa, Star of Light by Paticia St. John, one of my favorites because it inspired me to want to mission work through nursing in Africa, and picture books called Jemina's Dress and Gialimoto. We also read Bringing the rain to Kapiti Plain, which talked of the animals and trees of the plains in Africa. We ate African food and one of the favorites were crepes with honey. They eat spicy food which was harder to eat for the young ones. We loved the praise and worship songs by Watoto Choir. We made african masks as a craft. I will publish the finished products later.
I used the book Make A Joyful Sound- Poems for Children by African American Poets. I choose the poem Harriet Tubman for the girls to memorize. That poem speaks wonders to your heart on tha bravery of Harriet.
